Vintage Mid-Century Bent-Wood Chair, American (unknown artist) ca 1950’s-60’sVintage bent and laminated S shape chair created from pressure fused pine (possibly Oregon Pine). The patina is rich and the texture of the of the wood is smooth and silky. Possibly a hand created proto type or created in a non commercial wood shop or atelier. The chair is in good condition and is unpolished. Size: Top of chair: 45 Top of seat: 21 Seat: 15 x 15

Objects such as this fascinate me…Normally objects like this were not made for resale but personal use normally in a small village or other rustic place

The flat back is comfortable and unusual as many pieces have a cut out relief in the pattern of a grid or stylized crosses

it’s history radiates from the bowl

literally it has been polished smooth by the hands of the faithful

An example such as this one was highly venerated and signs of extensive ritual wear show this could have been used in a home or local temple for the purposes of religious practice

Local people fed them as they recognized their bowls and by this act acknowledged the monks piety

The surfaces itself has been worn gently with a lifetime of use and feels soft and comforting to the touch
